Excellent tool 03/12/2016
The neck gauge for proper head space is easy to use and is the finest I have found. Now the complaint, I wish they carried it in 25-06.
Partial functionality 04/06/2015
I recently purchased this item to determine headspace and to identify distance to the lands for load development on two rifles (Blaser LRS2 and Tikka T3). The headspace function works as advertised. The ability to identify distance to the lands was a total failure. Neither rifle would extract the tool. RCBS recommends manually hooking the tool under the extractor, but I found this impossible with both rifles. I tried several different methods to determine the distance, but was never able to get consistent readings (could be 0.05 variance).
If you are willing the pay the price for this tool to measure headspace, then go for it. If you expect to use it to determine distance to the lands, you will probably be disappointed.
Based on other reviews, this seems to be a common issue with this tool. I hoped as a mechanical engineer I would be able to get the tool to function, but it didn't happen. My main objective was the headspace measurement, so I may keep it, but it is a fairly expensive tool for only this purpose.
I have not had the chance to make up any loads yet, so I can't assess any other characteristics.
