The TRUE hollow-ground bit transmits all the energy of twist (torque) evenly and smoothly up the shank of the bit. Hollow grinding allows for optimal power transfer and ensures complete metal-to-metal contact between the tip of the bit and the entire screw slot. This design maximizes power exertion, similar to a finely tapered gun spring.
In contrast, so-called "hollow-ground" screwdrivers that are off square lead to torque pressures concentrating at the square edge of the grind along the tip, resulting in breakage—a flaw every gunsmith dreads.
