State-of-the-art bits designed for the modern gunsmith.
With the Brownells MAGNA-TIP screwdriver, gunsmiths and firearms enthusiasts can achieve a precise fit for nearly any gun screw they encounter, as well as for various tasks around the home and garage.
Design of Bits
The TRUE hollow-ground bit transmits all the energy of twist (torque) evenly and smoothly up the shank of the bit. This unique hollow grinding allows for optimal power transfer, ensuring complete metal-to-metal contact between the tip of the bit and the entire screw slot. Consequently, maximum power can be exerted, akin to a finely tapered gun spring.
In contrast, so-called "hollow-ground" screwdrivers that have been improperly ground off square lead to torque pressures concentrating at the square edge of the grind along the tip. As every gunsmith knows, such a flaw can result in breakage! Standard, straight-tapered screwdrivers direct all torque pressures to the fine edge of the screw slot, and being tapered, the laws of simple physics can force the bit out of the slot.
Perfect Fit
The complete sets include eleven bits for slotted screws, #1, #2, and #3 Phillips bits, plus ten hex bits for socket head screws. You can enhance versatility and achieve an absolutely perfect bit-to-screw-slot fit by purchasing extra bits and grinding them to an exact fit using the special Shaping Stone featured on this page.
Materials Used
The bits in the Brownells MAGNA-TIP screwdrivers are manufactured specifically for heavy industry, designed for high-speed, production, impact-power drivers used in mass production applications. They are constructed with the ideal combination of hardness and durability to provide maximum strength and longevity.
