The Brownells M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group is purpose-built for AR-15 owners looking to improve aspects of their rifle with a simple component swap, eliminating the need for major component replacement or amateur gunsmithing work. The Brownells M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group is machined from 8620 tool steel and features a heavy-duty bolt made using 9310 tool steel, which is then magnetic-particle inspected to ensure quality. The bolt is light enough to reduce the overall weight of a lightweight AR build, and the lightness of the entire assembly also reduces the felt recoil of any AR-style firearm. For whom it may concern, I just got this in the mail today and weighed it on 2 different scales at 8.2 ozs.

I am still working on my parts list for a lightweight build, so I cannot comment on it's reliability. However, It appears well made, and the weight is spot on.

Used this and a captured buffer spring to lower the reciprocating weight in my 3gun rifle. After extensive research on low mass steel bolts I stumbled across this. Almost to good to be true but it wasn't. Lightest steel bolt I could find and MUCH cheaper. If your looking for a steel LMBCG this is by far the best bang for your buck.

This is a very nice bolt carrier group. I have RCA, Fail Zero NiB, PSA and this rates as one of the best I have. The staking is perfect.

To those asking questions regarding Buffers, Springs, Gas block here is what I did: Bought Odin Works Tunable gas block - once set you lock it in. Bought Sprinco reduced power spring. Removed all the weights from a standard buffer. Closed the set screw on the gas block until just barely open and assembled. I hit the range with the ammo I was planning to use for my SBR and loading one round in the mag, fired and adjusted GB until the bolt locked back. I then fired multiple rounds confirming repeatability - done. Very nice shooter now. I am done with over-gassed rifles and took some weight off the rifle too!

Lighter in the rifle, not in the wallet (05/04/2018)

I bought this BCG within the first few days Brownells listed it for use on a build that is something between an SPR and a race gun. I wanted a light bolt to pair with the adjustable gas block but not enough to pay $250 or more for one.

This unit has worked flawlessly for the first 500 rounds with rifle length adjustable gas and empty carbine buffer. The finish is excellent. Follow up shoots and fast double and triple taps are a joy. Unless it breaks after more use or the more expensive ones get significantly lighter, I don't see much reason to use anything else in a fun gun.

works just fine in my AR (14/05/2018)

tossed this in one of my AR15's with a mid-length gas system and rifle buffer. Worked great with no issues and super easy to clean. Had to make zero modifications to the gun and I do not have an adjustable gas block but it ran just fine.The NiB coating is fantastic as it makes clean up a breeze and it is so easy to identify where fouling is present and requires cleaning. Will likely but a few more for my other ARs and hopefully they will work well...quite interested to try it in my 300AAC 8.5" pistol to see how it runs.
