Introducing the 1911 Slide Fitting Bars from BROWNELLS, designed to help you remove slide "play" accurately and professionally.

Product Description

These surface ground and hardened tool steel bars come in ten thicknesses, making them the preferred choice of agency armorers and top pistolsmiths. They offer the most accurate method to eliminate vertical slide “play” from the 1911 Auto, its variations, and copies.

While this method may be slower than quick-and-dirty alternatives, it ensures a far more precise and professional outcome. The basic procedure is as follows:

  • Measure the gun’s slide rail thickness.
  • Place the closest-sized Slide Fitting Bar in the frame “way”.
  • Tap the frame rail with a light hammer to close the “ways” space down to match the slide rail thickness.

Complete instructions are included with your purchase.

Definitely recommended

Brownells USA Work well, IF you know what your doing 15/02/2015

I've used these extensively to lower frame rails on 1911's. They work, BUT It requires patience and proper setup and tooling. Your frame has to be well supported with an aluminum mag well spacer and locked up in some type of non marring vice. As for peening the rails, A well polished tip on a wide punch can do the job but for a truly professional look I suggest you invest in the speciality peening wedges made just for this. If you decide to use a ball peen hammer, make sure the surface on the flat side is mirror polished. If you do the above, take your time you'll do fine.
