VIPER INTERNATIONAL-THE VIPER RIMFIRE/SPORTER BARREL TOP FEATURES: The Viper Rimfire/Sporter Barrel Top is just that. These tops are made to fit either the Viper (four-hole top) or the Python (two-hole top) barrel vise with rimfire/sporter barrels in mind. The tops will enable you to grip barrels as small as .500” to 1”. To use the Viper or Python Barrel Vise Rimfire/Sporter top just remove the nuts and washers from your Viper or Python Barrel Vise. Keep the springs in place, put the Rimfire/Sporter top onto your vise. On a sporter barrel- grip the barrel several inches away from the receiver/action on an area of the barrel that will make full contact with the barrel vise sporter top. On a rimfire barrel-Grip on an area of the barrel that will make full contact with the barrel vise near the receiver/action. On very tight action to barrel manufacturers companies that start with H, T or R a cardboard wrap is recommended to keep the barrel from slipping in the vise. These tops will handle over 90 ft/lbs. of torque on the nuts without bending. Viper advises wrapping the barrel when working with rifles where the torque of the action to barrel is unknown. Viper also advises wrapping the barrel when torquing the nuts over 50 lbs. This will help to prevent damage to the powder coat finish. For Sporter Barrels: Ensure you grip the barrel several inches away from the receiver/action, making full contact with the barrel vise sporter top.
For Rimfire Barrels: Grip the barrel in an area that ensures full contact with the barrel vise near the receiver/action.
When working with rifles where the torque from the action to barrel is unknown, wrapping the barrel is advisable. Additionally, when torquing the nuts over 50 lbs., wrapping the barrel will help prevent damage to the powder coat finish, ensuring your Viper Barrel Vise remains in excellent condition for years to come.
