Description:

Designed by MONTY KENNEDY Saves The Day When A Line Starts Astray!
A tool that isn't often used - until it is needed - and then it is the most necessary checkering tool you can own! Its main pur- pose is to straighten out checkering lines which have gone astray and to make layout and other lines really straight. There isn't a checkerer alive, pro or rank novice, who, at one time or another, hasn't had a line suddenly head for left field& either due to the wood's grain, a wood density change, or a false move. Straightening out such a line - without a Jointer Tool - could easily drive you right up the wall! Anyone who has checkered will instantly recognize the great value of this tool. The beginner (and pro, too!) should read Monty Kennedy's Checkering and Carving of Gunstocks and Bob Sconce's fine checkering articles in Gunsmith Kinks® and then include a Jointer with his checkering assortment.

Jointer Tool w/handle
SPECS: Tool Steel, the right hardness so you can resharpen with 60° 3-square file, 7/8" (cm) cutting area, 90° only.

Brownells USA An essential checkering tool 08/11/2014

This tool is so handy that it should really be included in the starter kit. It can be used for straightening crooked lines, but it has a lot of other uses as well. It is a coarse, 90 degree file that cuts in both directions, so it's perfect for cutting those first, critical lines when you're roughing out the pattern. You can also use it to extend lines, and once you get to the border you can use the pull stroke to make the lines meet.

It's also useful when you re-checker worn stocks or handgun grips, as it makes it much easier to bring the lines straight across screw holes, bald spots and other obstacles.

The only negative thing I can say about it is that it's a bit too coarse for softer types of wood, you have to use a light touch so it doesn't stick or tear the wood. No biggie though, this tool still gets 5 stars.
