Definitely recommended

Does not fit Savage 10 Ashbury Precision 21/11/2017

First off, the rail is terrific. Steel, perfect level, four screws included (torx head). BUT - be careful if you have a Savage 10 Ashbury Precision. This rail extends an inch or so forward of the front screws and is not high enough to clear the Ashbury handguard. Just wanted to warn any Ashbury owners.

Broken recoil lug 01/04/2014

Initially I thought it to be of high quality with a good fit. I tightened the mounting screws well with blue Locktite (did not use torque wrench) and all seemed well however after about 200 rounds 300 Win Mag I noticed erratic groups much worse than initially. I then noticed the recoil lug was cracked and then it fell off when I removed it. I noticed only the second from the front mounting screw to be slightly loose. Luckily they were intact (not sheared off) except for the front screw slightly bent backward (unscrewing noted some rubbing on one side of the screw hole. My load development did go up to loads that had high pressure signs but I stopped immediately after that. The majority of shots were around 78 grains of AA Magpro powder with only flattened primers (ok extraction, no severe cratering). I also used a Lead Sled with about 50lbs of lead so that should have reduced the recoil impulse on the recoil lug. I think the rail should not have failed. The recoil lug is very thin maybe 2mm max. Maybe ok in 308 but not strong enough for the belted Magnums. I was able to zero my Nightforce Competition Scope at 100yds with the 40MOA about 3-4 MOA of down elevation left. So okay at short range if don't need to change windage much

Simply the best 25/02/2014

Chose this base for a custom build (Remington 700 short action in .308, Shilen short-chambered Remington stainless barrel, heavy #7 contour, 25", Accuracy International AICS 1.5 stock), Brownell's picatinny rings, Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 optics). I truly don't think I could've chosed a better-fitting base. Comes with 6-48 Torx screws, however I usually drill out and install 8-40 screws in my rifles, but since this base has it's own recoil lug that drops down and contacts the front of the cartridge window, I don't think even the heaviest scope will knock it off - I left it at 6-48. The base has a lightening cut down the middle of the "rails", but since this base is made out of tough steel, it's still quite heavy- probably not the best base to choose for a lightweight or mountain rifle. The finish is a matte black oxide finish (or similar) and is extremely tough. I accidentally scraped it while removing release agent from my rifle, didn't even put a ding in it. I have used Badger Ordnance bases in the Army, as well as Leupold Mark 4 bases on other builds, but this Nightforce is my favorite, and will be all I use from now on. Worth every penny.
