Definitely recommended

Great upgrade 19/04/2014

I have installed these kits in a variety of Ruger Blackhawk type firearms over the years. I've used them in target shooting, competitive shooting, self defense and hunting handguns. I've installed them in New model single sixes, old model Vaqueros and new model blackhawks with little to no effort. Some minor fitting of the parts themselves might be needed, but absolutely no modification to the frame or major components of the gun itself are needed.

I really recommend getting the kit and you might as well upgrade to their free spin pawl while you're at it. Altering the factory pawl is simple enough, but can be challenging for those not intimate with the mechanics of single action handguns. Using their pawl simplifies this.

I just ordered my 7th kit and I'm sure it won't be my last. It's a great kit, high in value with quality parts that last the test of competition and daily carry. If for some crazy reason you don't like it, it's totally reversible. Just pull it out and swap back to your factory original parts.

On a side note: Please keep your factory original parts. It can only increase the value of your gun over time. I'm a Ruger collector also and I wish folks would keep all their original parts.

Not recommended

Frustrating 22/09/2012

Spent couple hours trying to get the frame squared before realizing you have to file here, grind there so it will work properly. Ended up using the replacement springs and trigger but had to stay with factory hammer. Slight improvement but definitely not worth the money!

AWESOME product! 20 minutes to install!! 08/10/2010

This item is totally awesome. It does NOT require any modification to your gun. By removing the 5 screws that hold the strap to the frame, you can access the hammer pin and trigger assembly pin for removal.
Remove the pins and slide these parts in place of the originals. Totally finished in 20 minutes!
Halfcock is great and this made me fall in love with my pistol all over again! I'm going to buy another for my Bisley Blackhawk.
BTW, this particular one is for full size frame Vaqueros. If your Vaquero's engraving reads "Ruger New Vaquero" or if the word "New" appears anywhere on your gun, don't use this one, use the other kit sold by Brownells and manufactured by the same company. This unit wil be too big for your frame.
