Definitely recommended

Smooth and crisp, as advertised 19/08/2018

I replaced an "OK" but well used and non adjustable factory trigger in an old workhorse 788 in .308 with the Timney.

No real problems installing it myself, but a couple cautions. An earlier reviewer stated he could not get the roll pin started in the Timney housing and enlarged the roll pin hole with his handy cordless drill. Use lots of caution here if you try this. The Timney housing is aluninum or some similar alloy. Also, I suggest you have a Dremel tool handy if you do need to relieve the stock. My 788 had a Richards Micro-fit stock and required quite a bit of relieving. If you need to do this you're not going to want to do it with a pen knife. The factory spec sheet said the trigger was set at 2.5 #. My scale showed it to be 2.25# using several measurements. I left it right there. Great trigger. Good investment.

Great trigger, but: 11/07/2017

I have owned my 788 for about 40 years and hunt deer and sometimes even shoot varmints with it. I now have it on a composite stock, with a Bushnell scope. The Timney trigger was my most recent modification. Once the trigger was installed it really rounded out the function of the rifle. No more trigger creep or checking to see if the safety is actually on because the trigger pull was so heavy. My only problem was in installation. The roll pin holes on the trigger housing were too small. I had to drill out the holes, one drill bit size larger and now it fits and is still as snug as it should be. I think this may be due to the early run of this particular rifle. One interesting thing on this trigger: I was going to modify the composite stock when using the factory trigger because I couldn't get the safety to completely engage. I'm glad I didn't because now the Timney safety lever fits perfectly on the new stock!
