The Best Action Wrench You Can Buy 08/03/2014
I purchased this with the Remington 700 heads, and absolutely am in love with this tool! I absolutely love the cut-out for the recoil lug to keep it aligned properly when installing the barrel. Keep in mind that the cut-out is slighly wider than a factory Remington lug, and must be shimmed in order to keep it perfect. If you are using an aftermarket lug with tapered sides, the fit is outstanding! I've used this to assemble/disassemble dozens of 700's so far, and this wrench has yet to even scratch one! The indexing hole that accepts an action screw is a nice touch - just be sure to order an extra screw to use with the wrench, because really really stubborn actions can slightly warp the screw. I'd rather replace a $3 screw than to have the wrench slip on the receiver! I was using the Surgeon barrel wrench, but after getting in an older 700 which ultimately required heat and 250+ ft.lbs or torque to break loose - the Surgeon tool would have mangled the receiver!
I have yet to see ANY other action wrench out there better than this one!
Also, be sure to get a matching Brownell's Barrel Vise!
Might have to fix it before you can use 19/02/2013
I got my wrench after being backordered.
The bolt on one side would not thread in. The thread must be hosed so I will try and fix via a tap wrench.
Just be aware a head of time you may have to repair the new wrench before you can use it.
