Style and functionality(12/09/2010)
The mag catch was over size in diameter and took a bit of fitting to drop into my frame which meant I could achieve a better fit than the factory original had, always a bonus. The oversize pad is great, easy to reach without having to alter your grip. Everyone at the range has commented on how good it looks and can't fault it for either style or functionality. I would not hesitate to recommend or use this product again.
Wilson Combat Oversize Mag Release(13/09/2010)
I have large hands but always had to "flip" my 1911 in my shooting hand to release the mag. Now I can release the mag without moving my shooting hand. Magazine change time reduced significantly. Art B.
top quality(19/02/2011)
homerun, out of the park.
wilson oversize mag relase(05/09/2011)
I used this mag release in a Norinco build. The product fits and works well with no fitting required. I will likely do some polishing to ensure a smooth action. As well dont forget to order the spring and catch lock as I did the first time unless you want to use your original parts.
AWSOME PART MAKES MAG RELEASE EASY(16/02/2012)
this part drops right in and may require fileing of the grip to operate properly but works perfectly and makes mag release very easy without trying.
Flawless performer(24/09/2012)
I was looking for an extended mag release that would allow me to keep my grip during mag changes. In looking over the few types available, this seemed to be the only one that would do this and it does. Before I dropped it in my Colt Combat Elite, I polished inside and out to both match my high polish frame and provide slick performance. I then installed a new 19 pound spring, a new hex head lock, it comes with neither, and some lube. It dropped into the frame without hesitation and I am well pleased that it works as well as I hoped. I was a little worried before purchase that I might have to relieve my many grips for this to function, not a chance, mags drop free and clear without the woodwork. I will be installing one of these into each of my 1911's in the near future. Thank you Wilson Combat, fit, function and form are flawless.
Drop fit to my SW1911(15/10/2012)
It drop right to my Smith Wesson 1911 .45..I did polish it just to make them work smoth but it was a good fit,and no fitting requaired for instalation.Button is BIG and i like it.No need to sand grips,.Reload id great. Not sure thats good choice for Carry gun but for competition is top..Works great and looks awesome.
Looks Odd; Works Great(03/02/2013)
I have small hands. The extra area to the rear allows much faster and more reliable reloads with my 1911s. Don't have to shift my grip as much to reach the release. Can't miss the big button area. Checkered surface is non-slip. Low profile doesn't snag on presentation. Drop in fit on my Sig GSR (Caspian frame).
Nice(31/03/2013)
I put this on my gun that is only going to the range. Obviously this would be very bad for a gun that you would be carried with you because you would be having your magazine coming out all the time. Makes it easier to get the magazine out as I always have to move my hand a lot to use the regular release. Also if you didn't know this comes in two pieces and comes apart by removing the hex screw and the wrench is even included.
Excellent!(05/05/2013)
I bought this to put on my Para Ordnance Stainless 1911, but they use different sizes for a lot of things in their 1911s, including the holes for safeties. It didn't fit, but it did fit in my project gun (almost completed Norinco 1911) and works flawlessly and looks good with all the other Wilson Combat parts. I started to wish I got the blued one, but I think it adds that little "je ne se qua" to it.
excellent addition(11/07/2013)
I have small hands and this makes it possible to change mags without flipping the gun. Contrary to another reveiw, this is a drop in for a para ord single stack. It will not fit a double stack.
Another Wilson Gem(30/09/2014)
For a little while I was beginning to wonder if something was going on at Wilson Combat that I didn't know about--particularly after a thumb safety that was so far out of spec that it was useless to waste any more time on trying to fit. But this part....this one has never failed me to drop right in and work perfectly. Furthermore, the pad configuration is really the best design out there for virtually any range/competition dedicated 1911. For some applications, the Ed Brown model works best, but this one is always my default setting. Remember to either use the mag catch and spring assembly from the mag release you're replacing, or buy a new one.
Great Oversize Mag Release(04/01/2016)
My hands are smaller so I need something to help me change mags easier without changing my grip on the gun and this was the ticket! I had to do a little sanding on the right side of the mag release to get it to fit into my SA GI 1911-A1, clipped one turn off the stock mag catch spring and it worked perfectly! It's so much easier for me to change mags now!
Installed without any problems. Looks great and worked perfectly, but. After three matches, the mag started falling out. Took it out, cleaned reinstalled same thing. Replaced with factory part, no more problems. I really wanted this to work. Loved it at first until it let me down. BTW, installed in a kimber stainless 9mm.
I would buy and use this product again(25/12/2009)
with smaller hands you don't have to shift your hand so far around to release mag. for faster changes in IPSC however for IDPA you have to change back to stock.
Great Additon for Small Hands(01/10/2010)
I installed this on my Rock Island Armory GI spec 1911. Works wonderfully! It doesn't have to be depressed as far to function. I did have to clean up the small edges to smooth the function but that is to be expected with after market parts. Other than that the part installed beautifully. The silver piece does NOT contact the grips when depressed either.
Very Close(05/12/2010)
I used this for my ground-up 1911 build (The frame is a Caspian Race Ready Recon). The button is absolutely perfect for tactical reloads, but I did have one problem. I had to weld up and file the shelf to get the magazines to seat high enough. Before I welded it, the rounds would nose down into the frame feed ramp and stop cold. The modification was easy and I haven't had any other problems.
Dropped in, worked perfect(02/03/2013)
Perfect fit for my my Colt combatt comander. No rough edges to smooth. Now I can drop the mag with out shifting my grip.
Un-Missable Button(22/01/2014)
Fitted in minutes to my 1911 and has instantly transformed mag changes and increased safety as no longer torqueing pistol in hand to reach original release button. Does not impinge on custom grips and looks stunning when accompanied by Wilson extended slide release and safety. Probably shaved up to a second of mag changes and smoothed out the process of mag changing under stress-fire situations which will ultimately lead to faster times and higher scores: delighted. NOTE: ground 70 thou off original release spring and this slicked up button pressure too. No other gunsmithing required!
Not for tactical or concealed carry(15/02/2014)
It's easy to install (no fitting at all on my 1911A1) and works like a charm (wilson combat, chip mccormick and colt magzines). However I won't recommend this for tactical use or concealed carry. Sometimes my left hand on grip accidentally depress the button and the magazine is release during the shooting. The same happened while carrying the gun inside my waistband. I think, however, this piece is great for competition and rage shooting.
Perfect release(26/07/2014)
I bought this to fit on my STI Spartan 9mm , was a straight swap and fits perfectly with the factory standard grips with no modifications required. For ease of use its a definite 5 stars, hands down this is the finest product I have ever used in regards to pistol magazine releases, I have smallish hands and can drop a mag without shifting my grip now.
No Glitches(14/01/2015)
I installed the Wilson Combat Oversize Mag Release in an attempt to ease magazine changes in informal local club and area USPSA matches. The part dropped right in to my Kimber Raptor II with no fitting. It also seems to provide a tighter lockup than the stock part with all of my magazines, the magazines fall freely, and best of all, I do not have to change my grip to release them.
Bites Palm(17/09/2015)
The large square release button bites the palm of your left hand. Not for competition if you use a high grip to control the pistol.
