Super finish for stainless(19/11/2015)
I do many GunKote jobs, and I am setup with a blast cabinet that always contains AlOx 120 grit for that purpose. I'm building a rifle at present, and the customer wants all stainless parts (all but the action) dulled to low sheen. I struggled with a polishing grit size that would do the job. Neither he nor I were happy with results. Then a tech here suggested 270 glass beads! Duh! That is close to what S&W has used on stainless guns for a long time. It retains a little of the sheen of the underlying metal. Yet, it is almost non-reflective. I have several CowBoy shooters with stainless guns that have me dull the finish from time to time. Now I can offer them another alternative that to me is more attractive..
If only I had space for another blast cabinet. ;-)
