Mauser
Very nice fit of parts. 31/08/2015
I bought this one-gun kit after trying to use the plunger body from the M14/M1/M1A kit. It did not fit a sleeve I had bought for the Large Ring Mauser. After receiving this kit with it's plunger body I then began trying all the parts one at a time.
Both plunger bodies are 0.5620" and the sleeves are 0.5625 except the M14, it was 0.563. There were little burrs on the plunger body of the M14 kit that made me think it would not fit the different sleeves. All fit well after a little lapping.
I plan on using the bolt lug lapping tool for several rifles I am building. After using the tool I believe I can use it to square the bolt face on a Mauser Large Ring VZ-24. After reaming the sleeve from existing 9/16" to a 5/8" I will press fit a drill bushing that is 5/8 x 3/8 and use the Mason Reamer Burr which has a 3/8" shaft. The Burr has been ground to 0.3740 to 0.3745. It has a buttery slip fit in the Drill Bushing.
Mauser threads are at a 55 deg pitch and not easy to find. Brownells sells the sleeve with the right threads for the '98 and the face truing Burrs. All you need is the drill bushing, the undersized drill, and the reamer to make the altered sleeve to be able to Lapp the lugs with the original unaltered sleeve, and true the face of your bolt with your altered sleeve. After, of course, you check that the receivers threads are true to the action. This can be checked with a mandrel which Brownells has too. This can be done for any rifle that Brownells has a sleeve for. Happy Gunsmithing, JL.
