It catches the bolt. It releases the bolt. It makes it a little easier to lock the bolt back. Job well done in my opinion.
The fit and finish is very good and it has functioned flawlessly so far. I can find nothing about it that would merit anything less than 5 stars.
If I was going into combat I would absolutely spend $20 more on a milled part instead of a cast part, but this is perfect for my MSR style hunting rifle.
