Converts Your AR-15 Into a Fixed-Magazine Rifle

The Hogue Freedom Fighter AR-15 Magazine Conversion Kit lets you turn a standard, mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver into a fixed magazine lower to comply with various state and local restrictions on detachable mags. Sure, we know these restrictions serve no constructive purpose, but the law is the law and responsible gun owners have to comply. Once the Freedom Fighter AR-15 Fixed Magazine Conversion Kit is installed, the magazine can only be released when the upper receiver is disassembled from the lower receiver. The Freedom Fighter Conversion Kit is a permanent attachment, but the user can uninstall it to return the rifle to a normal drop-magazine operation when you move to a more firearm-friendly jurisdiction. Kit includes: 3 spring-and-pin assemblies Drilling jig Two drill bits Spring and pin assemblies for converting additional rifles are sold separately as the Freedom Fighter Fixed Magazine Refill Kit For best results, Hogue recommends installation by a professional gunsmith or machinist, but the Freedom Fighter AR-15 Fixed Magazine Conversion Kit can be installed by anyone with good mechanical skills. perfect for california (08/10/2017)

this is the best thing I've seen for making my rifles California compliant! the best part is that it's easy to change back when I go shooting out of state and it is a bargain to be able to do three rifles with the parts supplied in the kit.

Worked great for less than free states make sure to watch the video and pay attention also make sure you get the right tools like a tap and such

Make yor AR CA legal (21/11/2017)

I've used this kit on 3 AR 15 lowers so far. It disables the bullet button or mag release until you pull the rear takedown pin and hinge up the upper slightly- a half inch or less- then you can release the mag in the normal way. The device can be removed with tools easily to return the rifle to its previous state. It takes time and patience and some smithing skills, so if you are not comfortable or do not have the skills to drill and tap holes with accuracy, let your local gunsmith do this. I broke the drill with the c-clip, but Hogue sent me a replacement, no problem. Brownells offered to replace the whole kit, but Hogue was faster. If you live in CA, this may be the solution you're looking for. The kit is durable, works on all my mil-spec lowers, including polymer, and has everything you need except the tap.

My Favorite Solution (24/06/2018)

Easy to install and very economical if you have more than one rifle. The only drawback is the drill bit with the e-clip is proprietary, but could be replaced with a drill bit and a stop collar.

I used 3in1 oil for drilling and tapping. I did this on a new bare receiver and would probably remove the trigger and safety to make cleanup of the chips easier. I am also going to use some proper tapping fluid to see if cleanup is easier.

I hope Hogue will produce an DPMS 308 platform jig.

Works but used caution (26/06/2018)

Easy to install if you take your time and works like it's supposed to. Will be using the Juggernaut rear take down pin with this for quick release. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is due to fact the "C" clip came off during my first install and then the drill bit broke on my second install. Luckily Lowe's sold a 8-32 drill bit and tap as a package and since you need to buy a tap anyhow it worked out ok. Package was only $6. During my second install since my new bit did not have a "C" clip on it I tried to measure how deep to drill buy measuring the broken drill bit. It didn't work and ended up drilling all the way through. I just did what directions suggested if you made this mistake and threaded the hole all the way down and used one of the set screws as a stop on the bottom and it worked fine. This has caused my 3 gun kit to become a 2 gun kit since I am out the set screw for the other pin and spring.

All in all I would recommend this if you have several guns to do since it is cost effective. If your only doing 1 rifle then get something you don't have to drill.

Really Clever, But Messy (03/08/2018)

There are a couple things they leave out of the video for this product. First, I created a mess while drilling my lower. Thankfully another reviewer noted this, so I made sure to take out my trigger first--smart move, and I highly recommend doing the same.

Second, you need to be very careful with the large drill bit. I was about 20 seconds into drilling when I broke it off inside the jig. That's when I saw the bit was made in china. Luckily Hogue is an excellent company--they sent me a new one in 2 days, and it was made in the US. FYI, if you break it too, it's a #29 drill bit. I recommend getting on a step stool or some other lift to give you a better angle on the jig, going slow, and reapplying cutting fluid often.

I pair this with the Juggernaut Hellfighter rear takedown pin. During function checking, this kit works exactly as advertised. So far this pairing is great because you keep your bolt catch. I can confirm that upon bolt hold back you can break the action and release the mag successfully--important for clearing double feeds. I'll edit my review if anything malfunctions while at the range.
