It is shaped to prevent it from rubbing against the sear spring, which could have an adverse effect the trigger pull and lock time. Precisely machined from high-grade steel for strength and polished for a super-smooth finish. They did it again ! 05/01/2014
One of the most over looked parts in
the 1911 is now a true performance part.
Improved geometry, extra length,and excellent
machining make this a great part.
Not to mention the faster lock time, and it dose
not hit the sear spring.

I changed the mainspring housing with lock on my Springfield Mil Spec and began getting occasional failures to fire. After checking other possible causes, I realized the new mainspring housing didn't allow for sufficient tension in the last, little bit of hammer travel. This strut, which is slightly longer than original, cured the problem!!! I now get consistent ignition and there is still spring force in that last bit of hammer travel.
Great product which worked well for me. In my case, no fitting was required.
