The Novak Mega Dot Fiber Optic Dovetail Front Sight fits a .330" x 65 degree x .075" Novak front sight dovetail cut. The fiber optic rod is larger for superior light gathering and added strength. The front of the sight is recessed and the sides are shielded to prevent damage to the fiber. The edges are beveled to be snag free and the brightness of the fiber gives a fast daytime sight picture for use with concealed carry. Works extremely well with the Novak Super wide notch rear sight. good and bad 07/03/2018
The good part first: they say it's a mega dot, and it is. Even though I have perfect vision, this dot still makes a big difference. At the same time the precise square of the front post is still there for when you need it. Many manufacturers leave too much of the fiber unsupported - not so here, construction looks pretty tough. I would be very happy with it, if not for the bad part.
Now to the bad part.
1) Fitting is required. Brownells said it fits a RO - and it will, with some filing. Not a very difficult job, but easy to screw up. Same with a Ruger SR1911.
2) The front of the sight is long. Depending on where your slide manufacturer put the cut-out, the sight may hang over the front of the slide. Which is unacceptable, and it cannot be fixed. It does hang over on a Rock Island Officer. It seems to just fit on a Ruger SR1911C. The sight has a big not recessed fiber mushroom up front, and if it is not protected by the slide it will shatter if knocked on something. So even when it just fits it's still an issue, it really needs to be further back.
