Indispensible in any shop 05/04/2013
I've had one of these for nearly 40 years. What this tool is used for is putting a spotting punch mark exactly where it needs to go, so it can be followed up with a heavier punch and hammer if necessary. It will NOT do the job of a stout center punch and 16 oz. hammer, it would be silly to expect it to do that.

Great idea but has problems 25/09/2012
I've had three of these over the years. When trying to stake a hard steel surface the tips just go from being sharp to blunted and rounded. I do not mind making 3-6 or more strikes on a sight or other item to be staked. Unfortunately the strike force of this punch is not adequate for the job nor is the tip hardened and tempered as it should be.
