Awesome Sight (01/03/2010)

This is probably the greatest buck-horn combination sight I have ever used. The heavy steel of the sight keeps it from bending. I use it with a taller front sight with brass or ivory bead and use it like a peep sight. Then, if I need to shoot a little farther than 50-75 yards, flip it up and use the ladder. The spring tension is secure. Standard 3/8" dovetail makes it great for just about any lever gun. I have one on two of my 1892s and one of my 1873s.

This is THE sight to use for your lever action rifles. It is well made and very versatile. The finish is excellent. I installed this sight on my repro 1892. It was dead on at 50 yards with my original front sight. I actually prefer this to the original Winchester style rear sight. It is matte blued, which is better for sights than gloss. It gives an awesome sight picture, and is easy to get on target quickly and accurately. Did I say that I LOVE this sight. Smith knocked it out of the park with this one. It did require minor fitting to the dovetail. It seems to be slightly oversized. No problem though, if you know how, and have the files you need. The set screw for the spring detent on the ladder just needs a small bit of red loc-tite and then tighten it so you can move it, while making it tight enough so it doesn't move under recoil. The description doesn't say it , but the ladder is marked. I'm certain that they blind markings though.

Great Sight Easy Install (09/07/2015)

This is a great sight and easy to install with minimal fitting. Simply remove the old sight (on an 1895 for example) with a drift. Then mic the old dovetail and write the size down. Using an Arkansas stone adjust the dovetail on this new sight to be no more than a thousandth of an inch wider than the original. Using a brass punch as a drift tap the new sight into position and you are done. Precision sight alignment can then be done at the range using the brass punch drift to zero the sights to rifle.

Excellent Sight (14/03/2018)

I purchased this sight in order to shoot my Marlin 1895GS at longer ranges. Thus far I have used it to achieve repeatable hits at over 500 yards using 415 grain cast bullets loaded to 1300fps. The markings do not correspond to yardages, part of that could be the short barrel of my Marlin, and the front sight height, it shoots 75 yards long (target at 500, set sight for 425). I look forward to more fun, how to smack some targets at 800 yards in the near future, lets me really use the Leica Rangefinder I own.
